I don't really do #java and one reason is that I'm a #vim user through and through so this might actually worth trying: ptrtojoel.dev/posts/so-you-wan…
#vim #java

I often hear people say "you don't need a full blown IDE, vim should be enough". Then I read those articles about which plugins I need to install and configure. I wonder at which point do we cross the line back into an IDE?

@jbeal I usually don't need or even like most IDE features but I see that it is helpful with java for example (OO in general I suppose) - with most languages I don't really need most of it and just use some visual stuff. Try this for 150% shiny platinum deluxe vim: vim-bootstrap.com/

The single most productive I have ever been from a tooling standpoint was writing Java with Eclipse and a plugin that popped up the keyboard shortcut for anything I did with the mouse. It made me stupidly fast. In comparison, being able to exit vim on the first attempt is a meme. I'm not going to say that vim can't as productive or even more productive, but the productivity floor for an IDE seems way higher than the floor for vim.
